Stella Kirby

Stella McKenzie Kirby, 87, formerly of Fairfield Apartments, went home tomeet her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 13, 2012, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

Born in Gastonia, N.C., on Nov. 2, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Viola McKenzie. Ms. Kirby was a graduate of Forestview High School and Gaston College. She started her music career traveling as pianist for evangelists and was pianist and organist for numerous churches in North Carolina and South Carolina. She was a music teacher in Gaffney for many years.

No greater legacy could have been left to her family than knowing we were loved by a Godly woman. Her love for the Lordwill bewritten in the hearts of her family that she leaves behind. Each one knew that their prayers were going up every day in good times and bad.

Surviving are a daughter, Dianne K. Cobb of Gaffney; a son, Randy M. Kirby and wife, Evelyn of Gaffney; a sister, Dorothy Hickman of Conover, N.C. Stella’s great love was her four surviving grandchildren, Amy Horton and husband, Steve, T.J. Cobb and wife, Tammy, Daniel M. Kirby and Jordanleah Kirby. Also, she received great joy from her surviving six great-grandchildren, Katlyn, Kristen, Holli, Cayden, Jaden and Aaron. She had a special love for her nieces and nephews. In addition, she leaves behind beloved friendship of Bobby Cobb, Fred and Janet Kirby, and Candis Mitchem.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, at the home of Amy and Steve Horton, 117 Gardner Road, Gaffney. Graveside services will follow at 1 p.m. Wednesday at FrederickMemorial Gardens with Mr. Bobby Cobb officiating.

The family will be at their respective homes.
