Fire breaks out at recycling plant near Cherokee-Spartanburg county line


The Gaffney Fire Department ladder truck was called in to help battle the fire from above the building.The Gaffney Fire Department ladder truck was called in to help battle the fire from above the building.The Gaffney Fire Department was asked to send its ladder truck to help battle a blaze at the Integrated Recycling Group of South Carolina facility on Old Georgia Highway near the Cherokee-Spartanburg county lines.

The ladder truck was being used to douse flames from above while other firefighters worked on the ground to contain the blaze. 

Cowpens Fire Department, Converse Area Fire Department, Mayo Fire Department and Whitney Fire Department all responded. 

The cause of the fire isn't immediately known. Fire officials were still trying to acess flames inside the building as of 4:20 p.m. Firefighters had to stretch a hose across Old Georgia Highway, closing the roadway to traffic and forcing a detour near Cowpens that still was in place as of about 5 p.m.

No injuries have been reported.
