Fire Department undergoing renovations

A sign at the Gaffney Fire Department headquarters asks visitors to excuse the dust as a renovation project is under way. Through the $50,000 project, public access to the building is being rerouted to keep visitors out of the fire truck engine bay for safety reasons and new administrative offices are being created at the front of the building. Fire Chief Jamie Caggiano said one of the new offices will belong to the city fire marshal.

The changes were made primarily for safety reasons and also because the fire department receives a lot more visitors today that when it opened, such as contractors meeting inquiring about code issues and safety regulations. Caggiano said funding for the project was included in the fire department’s annual budget. The work should be finished in about three weeks.
