Police searching for man who robbed downtown bank
Police are searching for a man responsible for robbing a North Granard Street bank Monday afternoon.
Gaffney Police Chief Rick Turner said a white male in his mid- to late-40s entered First Piedmont Federal Savings & Loan at 3:35 p.m. and demanded money via a note he handed tellers.
Turner said the man told bank employees he had a gun, but never presented a weapon.
The robber exited the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot to a nearby parking lot where he entered a small silver extended-cab pickup truck and drove away, turning left on Robinson Street toward Logan Street.
Turner said the man was wearing a dark-colored leather-style jacket over a hooded sweatshirt. He had the hood pulled up over his head during the robbery.
No one was injured in the incident. “Of course they were shaken up,” the chief said.
Authorities believe the robber acted alone.
Police are distributing photos of the subject secured from security cameras at the bank and are following leads.
