Indoor rec center plans could be ready by next week
Cherokee County Recreation District officials said they might have preliminary plans for the proposed indoor recreation facility ready as soon as next week.
Cherokee County Recreation District Director Marcus Bradley said although there has been a change in the architect who is developing the plans, that shouldn’t delay the timeline for completing them.
Bradley explained the reason for the change in architect was that the architect who was originally working on the plans left the Greenville firm of McMillan Pazdan and Smith, and the firm had assigned the project to a new architect.
Once the plans are completed, the recreation district will discuss them with Gaffney City Council, Cherokee County Council and local businesses in hopes of drumming up support for the project.
Bradley said the proposed 50,000- to 55,000-square-foot indoor recreation facility would feature an 8-lane swimming pool, basketball courts and multi-purpose rooms for volleyball and cheerleading programs.
Since the district owns no available land, either the city or county would have to donate property to the recreation district for the center, Bradley said.
