Gaffney coach Mark Huff talks to his players during a recent game. The Indians will be back in action Friday against defending state champion Byrnes in the region opener. The Gaffney boys basketball team will be well rested when it hosts Byrnes in a big region opening game on Friday.

Because of the postponement of the game with Northwestern, the Indians will have nine days off between their last game against Clover on Jan. 4 and Friday’s matchup with the Rebels.

Gaffney coach Mark Huff said the Indians game with Northwestern will be played on Wednesday, Jan. 25. Huff had said he would have liked to play the game today (Wednesday) if the Trojans agreed.

The makeup game will fall between games with region favorite Dorman on Tuesday, Jan. 24 and an away game at South Pointe on Saturday, Jan. 28.

“Dorman is definitely our top priority,” Huff said. “That’s the game that you worry about. The makeup game is something that you have to do.”

Blacksburg’s game with Greer Middle College that was postponed on Friday will be played tonight. The girls varsity game will begin at 6 p.m. with the boys to begin about 7:30 p.m.

The game is the Wildcats’ region opener.

“You always want to get off to a good start in the region,” Blacksburg coach Danny Ham said.
