Duckett tosses 3-hitter in win over Vikes

Scoring against Austin Duckett has been a challenge to say the least.

Spartanburg was the latest team to find that out.

Duckett was dealing from the start, allowing only three hits and fanning eight in a 6-1 win Tuesday at Jerry “Jug” Wallace Field.

Duckett is now 5-0.

“This win just continues our momentum,” Gaffney coach Jeff Osment said.

The Indians also had some timely hits, especially with two outs - a postive sign heading into the playoffs.

Damian Eubanks and Donte Wade both had two hits for Gaffney, who are now 6-4 in region play.

The teams were scheduled to play Wednesday but the game was made up on Thursday as part of a doubleheader at Duncan Park. The results weren’t available at press time.

Gaffney went on top with a run in the first before the Vikings tied it in the third.

Gaffney went up for good in the fourth with four runs on only two hits.

Eubanks started the rally with a one-out single. He advanced to third on two wild pitches. After Trent McDaniel walked, Wade laid down a perfect bunt that scored Eubanks.

Charlie Black then walked before McDaniel scored on a passed ball. Bryson Ward walked to force home Wade. The Indians’ final run was scored on a misplay on Cody Bailey’s hard hit between third and shortstop.
