Girl Scout Fundraiser

The Girl Scout Troop 1152 in Blacksburg will be holding a hotdog and bake sale fundraiser August 12 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the family life center at First Baptist in Blacksburg. Funds raised will go towards troop projects, badges and activities. Hot dog plates will be $6 per plate and will include two hot dogs all the way, chips, a cookie and drink. There will also be baked goods for sale and face painting.

Childbirth Class

Mary Black Health System – Gaffney is hosting a free Childbirth Class on August 14 from 5 – 7 p.m. This class concentrates on the last three months of pregnancy. Key elements of this class include: ways to reduce anxiety, pain management options, stages of labor, pushing, delivery methods and postpartum care. Bible Institute to Begin Aug. 15

Silica Springs Bible Institute announces its 3rd year beginning Tuesday August, 15 at 6 p.m. The Institute, located at the Silica Springs Baptist Church 2032 Pacolet Hwy in Gaffney, is a local church ministry. The Institute awards an associates degree of English Bible for satisfactory completion of the two-year coursework. Classes are designed to equip the Christian with basic skills such as how to study the Bible, familiarity of Bible Doctrines, and other needed instruction. Bee Meeting

The Cherokee County Bee Association will have their August meeting on the 15th at 6 p.m. at the Clemson Extension Office.

100th Annual Hopewell Day

Everyone is invited to the 100th Annual Hopewell Day Wednesday, August 16 beginning at 10 a.m. A gospel singing, picnic and Hopewell Hash will be available. Hash is $8 pint beginning at 6 a.m. singing starts at 10 am. Join in the fun and good food at the Old Hopewell School on Hopewell Road in Hickory Grove, SC 29717. Proceeds go to the renovation of Hopewell School.

Spaghetti Dinner Benefitting Walk for the Cure

A spaghetti dinner benefitting Diana Reid (11-year cancer survivor) and Erin Wise’s Susan G. Komen 3- Day, 60 Mile Walk for the Cure will be held Thursday, Sept. 21 in the family life center at Buford Street United Methodist Church fro 5-7:30 p.m. The meal is dine-in or take-out and consists of homemade spaghetti with meatballs, salad, bread, dessert and tea. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 13. The dinner will be cooked by Diana’s parents

and family.

Local Church Helping to Feed In Need Students

Broad River Baptist Church has accepted the ministry to feed needy children in our Blacksburg S.C. school system and we would love your help. We are sending home with our needy children easy to use foods to sustain them over the weekend until they can get back to school and have breakfast and lunch. Free Joint Care Seminar

Mary Black Health System – Gaffney is hosting a free Joint Care Seminar on Thursday, August 24 at 5 p.m. in Mary Black Gaffney’s Private Dining Room. If pain from arthritis or another joint problem is keeping you from doing the things you love, help is close by. Join us to learn about options for relief. BHS Class of 59 Meeting

GHS Class of 1957 Reunion

The Gaffney High School Class of 1957 will be celebrating their reunion September 30. Anyone that has not been contacted should call Junie White at 585-2359, 316-2555 or 398-0675 to let committee members know if you are interested in attending. The Class will meet at Kelly’s Steak House in Blacksburg and a meal will be provided.

Blacksburg Class of 77 Reunion

The Blacksburg Class of 1977 will be celebrating their 40th reunion on Oct. 14 at the Elks Lodge in Gaffney from 7 p.m. until midnight. The cost is $25 for singles and $50 for couples. Make checks payable to Blacksburg Class of 1977 and send payment to First National Bank, 217 N. Granard St., Gaffney, SC 29341. There will be heavy hors d’oeuvres, cash bar and karaoke. The homecoming game is set for Friday, Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m. The classes of 1960-79 are invited.

Make-A-Wish SC Volunteers Needed

Make-A-Wish South Carolina is seeking volunteers to help make wishes come true for children across the state. Bilingual volunteers are also needed. The Gowdyesville Baptist Church will have their Homecoming Service on Sunday, August 13 during the

Abingdon Creek Baptist Church, 187 Abingdon Road, will have homecoming services Sunday, Aug. 13, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Ricky Martin will be guest speaker. Lunch will follow the service; bring a well-filled basket.

There will be a Back to School Celebration on Saturday, August 12 at 3 p.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church in Cowpens, South Carolina. Guest speaker for the event is Coach Mike Ayers from Wofford College.

Shady Grove Baptist Church will observe its annual Homecoming Service Sunday August 20 beginning with the 11 a.m. worship service; and Revival Services August 21, 22, 23 (Monday through Wednesday), beginning at 7 p.m. nightly. The Mikes Creek Baptist Church will host their annual Homecoming and August revival services starting Sunday, August 20 at 3 p.m. with Homecoming service. The speaker will be Rev. Michael Bridges, pastor of the Concord Baptist Church in Gaffney, S.C. Their annual August revival will be Monday-Thursday, (8/21-24) beginning at 7 p.m. nightly. New Trinity Christian Fellowship, 101 Williams Rd., Gaffney, will be having its youth revival August 14-16 at 6:30 p.m. each night. Guest speakers will be: Monday - Minister Torry Allen Sr., Tuesday - Minister Sara Ellis, Wednesday - Minister Christopher Gist. The theme is “Today’s youth - the battle is not yours, it’s the Lord’s.” Come out and help the youth praise the Lord.

The Limestone Baptist Church cordially invites you to attend their annual revival. The revival will begin August 13 at 3 p.m. with guest speaker Rev. Claude Wallace and the congregation of Mt. The Women's Day Committee of Bethel Baptist Church, 218 West Dr. L. M. Rosemond Lane, will sponsor a fundraiser sale in the Sanders Conference Center on Saturday, August 19 beginning at 9 a.m. with a Chinese Auction, Everything Is A Dollar Sale and Car Wash. Cars will be washed for small vehicles-$10; midsize/ smaller SUV’s - $15, and large vehicles, SUV’s and trucks - $20. The hot dog and fish plate sale will begin at 10 a.m. Hot dog plates will be $6; fish plates - $7, and plates will consist of baked beans, slaw and a drink. Fish sandwiches - $3.50; hot dogs-$1.50 and drinks and bottled water - $1. Everyone is cordially to come and fellowship and enjoy some delicious food and get your car washed.
