Internet and social media safety seminar

Concord Baptist Church is hosting a free internet and social media safety seminar September 16 at 10 a.m. All are welcome to attend – youth, parents and seniors.

Given the increase in crimes against children, young people and seniors on the internet through social media and other avenues, the church has invited experts to come and share information on how to identify and protect yourself and loved ones from online predators in this day and age.

The guest speaker will be Joe Ryan, a former deputy sheriff and current education coordinator with the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office in the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. He provides community education and outreach to children, parents and community members in a proactive effort to prevent the victimization of children through the internet. He creates and delivers presentations regarding subject matter relating to these crimes such as online predators, social media, cyberbullying, inappropriate communication, and other topics as needed.

Sheriff Mueller and representatives from the Cherokee County Sheriff ’s Department will also be at the event to provide important information specific to Cherokee County.

Concord Baptist Church is located at 915 Concord Rd. in Gaffney.
