Sametra Dawkins

Sametra Achelle Dawkins, affectionately called “Metra,” age 30, passed away on November 9, 2017, on Overbrook Drive, Gaffney, South Carolina.

Daughter of Sammy Humphries and Gloria Dawkins, she was born on April 12. 1987, in Cleveland County, North Carolina. “Metra” never met a stranger and everyone she came in contact with loved her. She joined Bethel Baptist Church at an early age and sang on the Buds of Promise and BBC Youth Choirs, and also served on the Primary Usher Board. Sametra was a 2005 graduate of Gaffney High School and earned an Associate Degree in Medical Terminology from Virginia College in 2013. She was formerly employed by CVS and was a current employee of Nestle Frozen Food. Proceeding her in death were three grandparents, James Henry “Huge” Davidson and J. T. and Bessie Humphries.

Left to cherish her fond memories are her son, Brandon Renard “B.J.” Jeffries, Jr., her mother, Gloria Dawkins, her father, Sammy Humphries, her sister, Donitra Dawkins Petty (Reginald), all of Gaffney, two brothers, John Fernanders (Anjonique) of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and James Humphries, of Gaffney; also, her maternal grandmothers, Janie Mae Davidson and Louise Littlejohn, her uncles and aunts, William Davidson (Kay), Carol Lipscomb, William Powell, Larry Phillips, Wilbert Phillips, James Wilson, Ray Lou Galmon, Jonette Humphries, Hettie Mae Humphries, Betty Davis and Sandra Evans, all of Gaffney; three cousins reared as siblings, Tamia Phillips and Shane Davidson, both of Gaffney, and Jamel Davidson of Charlotte, North Carolina; her god-mother, Judy Smith, three god-brothers, Vonnie and Shawn Smith and Tyson Tillman, her god-son, Quaterrin Bonner, her best friends, Turquoise Corry, Pakia Byers, April Pearson, Kevin Goodwin, all of Gaffney and a host of other relatives.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 15, at 1 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. James W. Sanders, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery. She will lie instate at 12 noon until the hour of the service.

A Visual for Sametra Achelle Dawkins will be held on Monday, November 13, at 6 p.m. in Bethel Baptist Church Sanctuary at 218 West Dr. L. M. Rosemond Lane, Gaffney, Dr. James Sanders, Jr., pastor.

The family can be contacted at the home of her mother, Ms. Gloria Dawkins and her grandmother, Mrs. Janie Mae Davidson, at 506 West Robinson Street, Gaffney.
