Man faces multiple charges after wreck that damaged Gaffney BPW equipment

Gaffney Board of Public Works crews had a big mess to fix following a Wednesday afternoon accident on Hyatt Street that led the South Carolina Highway Patrol to file charges against a Gaffney man.

Lance Cpl. Gary Miller said the accident occurred at approximately 3 p.m. when Kenneth Roy Pennington Jr., ran off the right side of the highway near Midway Road and struck a utility pole.

The alleged driver, a 23-year-old Gaffney man, was subsequently charged with driving under suspension, 1st-offense driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage.

The driver reportedly left the scene on foot after the accident, prompting the South Carolina Highway Patrol to call in the Cherokee County Sheriff ’s Office tracking team, which used an aerial drone to search from above and locate the suspect.
