Gaffney police are investigating

a late Wednesday evening incident in which someone tried to break into a Holmes Street residence and then

allegedly fired multiple gunshots into the structure.

Altogether, according to an incident report, officers collected eight spent shell casings of two different calibers, .40-caliber and 9 mm, as well as one spent bullet that was found in a wall behind the front door of the home.

The incident occurred in the 400 block at approximately 11:50 p.m., according to a police report. When police arrived they saw that both the glass storm door and door of the residence were broken. A resident of the home told police he had been inside with three others when an unknown person tried to kick in the front door and got their foot stuck in the door.

The person who was trying to make entry then allegedly fired a gunshot into the residence before running back to a vehicle. A few seconds later, police were told, someone fired several shots that struck the residence and two vehicles parked in the yard.

No one was struck and no injuries were reported.

Det. Lt. Ron Ramsey said Thursday afternoon the case remains under investigation.
