Wildcats fall in regular season finale

The Blacksburg boys basketball team started on fire but cooled off in falling to Landrum 56-52 Thursday in the regular season finale.

The Wildcats finished fourth in the region and will travel to Greenville Charter Tech to open the playoffs on Wednesday.

The Wildcats jumped to a 20-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. Landrum rallied, though, to trail by six at the half, 30-24. The Cardinals tied the game at 41 at the end of the third quarter and slowly pulled away for the win in the final eight minutes.

Elijah Rodgers paced the Wildcats with 14 points, while J. Andrew Gore added 10 and Brandon Gettys had 7.

"The shots that fell in the first quarter didn't in the second half," Blacksburg coach Danny Ham said.

The Lady Wildcats fell to Landrum 75-72 to finish third in the region. Jada Ferguson had 26 points to pace Blacksburg.
