Limestone AD updates coach search

Ledger Sports Writer

A national search has drawn great interest in Limestone College head football coach vacancy as the college nears a final decision.

Limestone received more than 100 applications in its search for a new head coach to replace Mike Furrey. Furrey resigned in January following two years at Limestone to become the Chicago Bears wide receivers coach.

“With the success we had in the conference and our coach moving to an NFL position, this increased the level of interest from candidates,” said Mike Cerino, Limestone College vice president for intercollegiate athletics.

Furrey guided Limestone to its best season in the team’s 4-year history in 2016 with a 5-6 overall mark. He led the program to a fourth place finish in its first season of competition in the South Atlantic Conference.

Cerino said Limestone hopes to announce its new head football coach in February before spring practice starts.
