James Gary Scruggs

Gaffney, S.C. — James Gary Scruggs, 75, formerly of 1509 Overbrook Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Renaissance Marquis in Rome, Georgia.

Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of the late Mavis Payne Scruggs and the son of the late Joseph Vic Scruggs and Odeller Huffstetler Scruggs. He was a graduate of Gaffney High School and Cecil’s Business College and retired from Hoechst Celanese. He was a member of the S.C. National Guard and U.S. Army Reserves and a member of Central Baptist Church.

Surviving is a daughter, Sonya Cook and husband, Marc of Rome, GA; a sister, Doris J. Tennant of Little Rock, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Collin Cook and Austin Cook; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Ray Scruggs.

The family will receive friends from 12 until 1 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2018 at West End Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1 p.m. at the Church with Dr. Wayne Brown and Rev. Rodney Cook officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1886, Gaffney, SC 29342.

The family will be at their respective homes.
