The Gaffney Indians flexed their muscles at the recent South Carolina Strength Coaches state tournament.
The Indians finished tied for second with Northwestern, but lost the tiebreaker for third in the Class 5A competition.
Dorman won the meet at Brookland- Cayce High School on March 26.
“I was really proud of them. They showed a lot of effort and dedication,” Gaffney assistant strength coach Randy Birch said.
The Citadel signee, Sawyer Whitman, finished second in the competitive heavyweight class for students who weight 265 and up.
Whitman had a squat of 530 lbs., bench pressed 340 lbs. and had a 96-inch broad jump.
Two more members of the 2021 state champion Gaffney Indian football team, Tyler Smith and Eddie McDowell-Tate finished third and fourth respectively in the 180-lbs. class.
Phillip Wade was fourth at 170 lbs., while BrayShawn Littlejohn finished fifth at 220 lbs., and Johan Aragon was sixth at heavyweight.
Eli Barnhill finished fifth at 140 lbs. and freshman Eric Lamb was third at 205 lbs. and Viante Robbs was third at 140 lbs. in the jayvee division.
Gaffney strength coach Tony Smith is a finalist for the strength coach of the year. It will be announced at a later date.
