Little Theatre rep to address city councilFree Access

A search for a new home for the Gaffney Little Theatre will change venues today.

At the request of a Gaffney Little Theatre official several months ago, Cherokee County Council paid for a condition assessment that determined that renovating their current building would be cost prohibitive.

Another Gaffney Little Theatre representative will appear before Gaffney City Council today to discuss a previous possible theatre location at the old Brown Furniture site. The city acquired the site from the Gaffney Little Theatre with the understanding that it would become the theatre’s new home. That plan fell through four years ago when Gaffney City Council voted to halt the planning and fundraising for the $5 million performing arts center.

The agenda also includes a recommendation from the personnel committee on police officer housing stipends, a report from the police committee on fees for special events and road closings and a recommendation from the building and grounds committee on a roof replacement for the Thompson Street fire department substation.

The project was tabled at council’s last meeting over concerns with the bids. Local contractor D.K. Mason submitted a higher bid but the city’s roof consultant said the company offered a more durable roof.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at city hall. COVID-19 protocols will be in effect.
