Blacksburg High and Blacksburg Middle will host their annual “Meet the Wildcats” winter sports showcase Monday at 5:30 p.m. in the Walter J. Smith gymnasium at the high school.
The schools will introduce this year’s basketball teams. There will be a student basketball competition and a three point contest involving the Blacksburg varsity girls and boys players.
There will be scrimmages for middle school, junior varsity and varsity boys and girls teams.
Parents are strongly encouraged to attend Monday.
School staff will provide information on athletic training, health and injury prevention, and health forms and procedures. Following the “Meet the Wildcats,” there will be parent meetings for each winter sports team.
“Meet the Wildcats is our way to generate excitement for the upcoming season. Something that everyone can rally behind, something that is clear, concise and gives a directive,” Blacksburg High athletic director Phillip McHam said. “We’ve talked about value and inclusion as it relates to our athletic department, the student-athletes we serve, and parents being welcomed into our program with open arms and a kind heart. We’ve talked about things that could make it a better environment for someone, from the music played in the locker room, to the words we use, and how we treat each other. We want to make it clear to everyone involved in our athletic program that this is what’s important to us and these are our values and standards.”
