Seymour, TN — Melroe Clayton Phillips, 92, of Seymour, died on Sunday, February 12, 2023. He was born to the late Columbus and Polly (nee Bridges) Phillips on June 5, 1930, in Gaffney, SC. Melroe honorably served in the United States Air Force and later was a Civilian Production Controller at Wurtsmith AFB and retired after 25 years of service. A 32 degree Past High Priest of the Masons, Melroe was an active Shriner and made many trips from Michigan to the Shriners Hospital in Chicago. He loved travel and the weather. Melroe enjoyed comedy, sharing jokes and stories with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Zelda Phillips; sisters, Ethel Champion, Venelia Phillips, Mae Price, Nellie White, Julia Collins, and Carolyn Johnson; brother, L.C. Phillips.
Melroe is survived by his wife of 67 years, Francell Phillips (nee Coleman); daughters, Linda Ann Heatherly, and Deborah (Norman) Englund; grandchild, Reece Englund; many special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:00AM until 11:00AM on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11:00AM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Joel Gardner officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
