Saints Open SAC Play With Carson-Newman on Saturday AfternoonFree Access

 Looking to break into the win column, the Limestone University football team will open South Atlantic Conference as it hosts Carson-Newman on Saturday afternoon at Saints Field. Kickoff for the contest is slated for 12 p.m.

The Saints were upended by West Alabama last week, 27-13

For the second consecutive game Limestone outgained its opponent, racking up 328 yards to UWA’s 285

Overall, the Blue and Gold completed 23-of-42 passes for 268 yards but were picked off three times

The ground game mustered only 60 total yards and one touchdown

Limestone controlled time of possession for the game, 31:17-28:43

The Saints looked poised to strike early after forcing a fumble on West Alabama’s first drive

However, three straight incompletions left the Blue and Gold with a field goal

Back-to-back scores by the Tigers gave the visitors a 10-point lead heading into halftime

The Saints first rushing touchdown of the season pulled Limestone to within 13-10 in the 3rd quarter

However, West Alabama outscored the Blue and Gold 14-3 down the stretch

Limestone looks to take back-to-back wins in the series with Carson-Newman after earning its first win of the series last season in Jefferson City

Senior QB Dustin Noller (Rock Hill, S.C.) looks to take snaps under center after missing last week with an injury

Senior WR Drew Dixon (Tucson, Ariz.) will also make his return to the lineup following a one-week hiatus

Junior RB Tre Stewart (Winston-Salem, N.C.) will try and get going as he has been held to just 179 yards on 36 carries through the first two games

Senior WR Jelani Baker (Snellville, Ga.) leads the Saints with two receiving touchdowns

Sophomore DB Jeremiah Lomax (Abbeville, S.C.) anchors the defense with 14 total tackles

Sophomore DL Damon Early (Charlotte, N.C.) is coming off his best game of the season, compiling three sacks

Sophomore P Bryan Frey (Villa Rica, Ga.) is averaging close to 40 yards per punt on the year

Freshmab K Daniel Deneen, Jr. (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) connected on two field goals and an extra point in last week’s loss

Carson-Newman Game Notes

The Eagles are coming off a 42-0 loss at Division I East Tennessee St. last week

Carson-Newman compiled only 204 yards of total offense, including 105 through the air and 99 on the ground

The Eagles punted the ball 12 times on the evening

C-N’s quarterbacks had a hard time under center, completing only 8-of-28 pass attempts

Cam Ferguson led the rushing attack with 40 yards on 10 carries

For the year, Ferguson has 108 yards and one touchdown

Zane Whitson leads the visitors with 123 passing yards and a score

Cade Meeks leads the Eagles with 52 receiving yards while Bryce Bevins has caught a team-high six passes

Defensively, Jake Cottle has 16 total tackles, including three sacks

The Eagles have yet to attempt a field goal on the season
