Virginia resident named CCSD finance directorFree Access

The Cherokee County School District has hired a new finance director and started its search for a middle school principal.

Virginia resident Sandy Isom has been named the district’s executive director of finance.

She has spent the past 10 years at her alma mater Averett University, a private college in Danville, Va. She previously worked six years as an accounting manager for the Institute for Professional Development.

Isom, who has family in South Carolina, is finishing her second year as controller at Averett University where she oversees the business office. She earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master of business administration (MBA) from Averett.

Her start date in the Cherokee County School District wasn’t immediately known.

Isom replaces current finance director Sherri Morgan, who is retiring. Morgan has overseen the district finances since the fall of 2018. She will remain with the school district until July 20.

In an unrelated move, the school district is looking for a new Ewing Middle principal.

Ewing Middle principal Gavin Fisher has accepted a job as assistant principal at Southside High in Greenville, according to superintendent Dr. Dana Fall. Fisher has served as Ewing Middle principal since the summer of 2021.

Fisher will reportedly earn a higher salary as an assistant principal in Greenville than he made as Ewing Middle principal. He earned $92,250 as Ewing Middle principal in 2022, the most recent year local school salary information was available.

Fisher spent 16 years as a teacher in Spartanburg County before he became a school administrator.

Fisher served as Granard Middle principal from 2017 until the school was closed in 2019. Prior to becoming Ewing principal, he spent nearly three years in the Cherokee County School District office as the coordinator of attendance, truancy and discipline.
