Bids higher than expected for new animal shelter

County officials learned Monday it’s costing more to build a good animal shelter these days. Gaffney-based Sossamon Construction submitted the low bid of $5,438,000 – about one-half million more than county officials estimate of $5 million to build its new animal shelter. Blacksburg High students are shown painting front windows with Christmas designs at the Blacksburg museum. Students got into the holiday spirit by painting windows at 10 downtown businesses, including WiseFire Coffee House, Patterson’s Wrecker Service, and the Blacksburg Police Department.
