Gaffney, SC — John “Dicky” Lucian Scruggs, 88, of 163 Ann’s Trail, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 22, 2025 at his residence.
Born in Chesnee, he was the husband of the late Alice Rogers Scruggs and son of the late Junie L. Scruggs and Mary Ellen Martin Scruggs. He was a graduate of Chesnee High School and retired from Duke Power after 39 years of service. He was a very active member of New Pleasant Baptist Church where he served on the cemetery committee. He was a Mason with Chesnee Masonic Lodge and served as chairman of the board of Daniel Morgan Water District. He loved his family and playing golf.
Surviving are two sons, Wesley Scruggs (Casey) of Charlotte, NC and Steve Scruggs of Gaffney; two daughters, Tammie Roddy (Steve) of Chesnee and Melissa Kale (Dr. Randy) of Cumming, GA; ten grandchildren, Brittany Kale, Bristol Kale, Easton Kale, Brooke Kale, Brandy Kale, Austin Roddy, Luke Roddy, Grayson Scruggs, Cole Scruggs and Jack Scruggs; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Max Scruggs and Franklin Scruggs, and a sister, Lunette Smith.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at New Pleasant Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 PM at the Church with Reverend Jon Nahlen and Reverend Brandon Morris officiating. Interment will be at New Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.
