UNION, SC — Mr. Michael L. “Mike” Lovelace, age 75, husband of Ponnee Grady Lovelace, of 127 Southwood Dr., Union, passed away, Thursday, November 27, 2025 at his home.
Mr. Lovelace was born in Spartanburg on December 28, 1949, of son of the late Edward Thurber Lovelace and Frances Davis Blalock. He was a graduate of Gaffney High School and retired from the South Carolina Department of Transportation. During his lifetime, he worked as a bus driver for the Union High School Band, Sports teams and the Sims Volleyball team. He was an active member of Covenant Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Member of the Choir. Mr. Lovelace was an avid follower of Gamecock Sports, Atlanta Braves Baseball and NASCAR. He loved Gospel Music and raising chickens. Mr. Lovelace cut the grass at his church and would assist anyone who needed their grass cut, the heat never bothered him.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Tracy Lovelace Duncan and husband James of Union, Crystal Belue and husband Josh of Union, and Brandy Greene and husband Terry of Union; six grandchildren, Corey Garner, who was raised in the home, Luke Belue, Trey Greene, Kaitlyn Greene, Rachel Duncan, and Will Duncan; three brothers, Larry Lovelace, Greg Lovelace, and Terry Sprouse; three sisters, Delores Pennington and husband Billy, Wanda Goodwin and husband Jeff, and Sandy Lawter; and a special aunt, Margaret Walker, who raised him, of Gaffney. He was predeceased by his grandmother, Estelle Davis and two brothers, Billy Lovelace and Jimmy Lovelace.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Sunday, November 30, 2025 at Covenant Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Scott Cobb, Rev. Scott Garrett, Rev. Brad Goodale, and Rev. Guy Langston. Burial will follow at Rosemont Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Josh Belue, Trey Greene, Terry Greene, James Duncan, Corey Garner, Kenny Jennings, Aaron Martin, Mike Turner, and Jon Langenfeld. The following are asked to sit in a group and form the honorary escort, current and former employees of SC DOT, Former employees of Cone Mill – Carlisle Finishing Plant, and the nurses and staff of Crescent Hospice.
Visitation will be held Saturday evening, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
