Willie Moore

U.S. Merchant Marine

Willie “Bubba” Moore, 80, of Blacksburg died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at Hospice of Wendover in Shelby, N.C.

A native of Cherokee County, he was born Sept. 21, 1924, and was the son of the late Willie Mae Moore.

He worked at George Bridges Cotton Gin as a young man before joining the U.S. Merchant Marines, where he served for the next 20 years before retiring. He later worked as a welder for Todd’s Shipyard in Hoboken, N.J., and General Dynamics in New London, Conn. In 1990, he returned to Cherokee County.

He is survived by a daughter Jerri Moore of New York City; a son Michael Moore and his wife, Peggy, of Edison, N.J.; a granddaughter Cassidy Moore of Hackensack, N.J.; two sisters, Margie E. Moore of Gaffney and Betty R. Moore of Blacksburg; an aunt Sara Moore of Magnolia Manor in Rock Hill; a nephew Donnie K. Moore of Charlotte; two great nieces, Whitney Moore and Chelsea Moore, both of Charlotte; and many more relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mountain View Cemetery in Blacksburg, with the Rev. Thelma Gordon officiating.

The family will be at the home of his sister, Margie Moore, 208-B Woodland Road in Gaffney.

Thomas Reep

U.S. Navy veteran

Thomas L. “Junior” Reep, 75, of 509 Garner Creek Road, Blacksburg, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at his home.

A native of Shelby, N.C., he is the husband of Elsie Rose Reep, also of the home, and the son of the late Thomas L. and Lucie Butler Reep.

He was a member of the Full Gospel Community Church in Lincolnton, N.C. and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. A retired carpenter, he lived in south Florida for 45 years.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Larry Phillips of Weston, Fla., David Phillips of Ocala, Fla., and Michael Reep, of the home; a daughter Arielle Reep of the home; two grandsons; one granddaughter; three stepgrandchildren; a great-granddaughter; five step-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, James Reep of Kings Mountain and Paul Reep of North Port, Fla.

A celebration of life service for Mr. Reep will be held at 2 p.m. today at Clingman Memorial Gardens with the Revs. Barbara Camp and Jim Cape officiating.

The family received friends Sunday at White Columns and will be at the residence at other times.

White Columns Funeral Service is handling arrangements.

Beulah Phillips Blanton

Member of Love Springs Baptist Church

Beulah Phillips Blanton, 90, of 248 Swofford Drive, Cowpens, died Saturday, Nov. 27, at Magnolia Manor in Spartanburg.

A native of Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late John Cleveland Phillips and the late Effie Waddell Phillips. Mrs. Blanton was the widow of Floyd Blanton, whom she had been married to for 67 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Love Springs Baptist Church.

She is survived by a sister Mary McDaniel of Hickory Grove, S.C. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Love Springs Baptist Church with the Revs. Bruce Randolph, Billy Millwood and Randall White officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family received friends at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home on Sunday.

Pallbearers will be James Fowler, Tom Whelchel, Martin Martin, Floyd McDaniel, Jimmy McDaniel, Edward Fowler and Jerry Smith.

The family is at the home of Louise Smith of 310 Oglesby Lane in Cowpens.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 110 Dean St., Spartanburg, S.C., 29302.

Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Bryan Scott Jones

Bryan Scott Jones, 31, of 402 10th Street, died November 24, 2004. He was the son of Gerald Jones and Myrtle Price Jones.

A native of Miami, Fla., he was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his fiance’ Michelle Massey and son Ethan Jones of Cowpens; sisters, Cathy Burns of Springfield, Ga., Holly Schiro of Coral Springs, Fla.; brothers, Eddie Smith of Springfield, Eddie Jones of St. Cloud, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 27, at 11:00 a.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home with the Reverend Delos Blanton officiating.

Burial followed at High Point Baptist Church Cemetery with Wesley Sellars, Nathan Hoffman, Jimmy Gilfillan, Kevin Davis, Buddy Addis, Josh Whitlock, Larry Ray Easler and David Peterson serving as pallbearers.

Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home is serving the Jones family.
