Mabel Crowe Spencer Peeler, 87, formerly of 180 Perrine Road, died Tuesday, May 31, 2005, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Cherokee County, she was the widow of Roy C. Peeler and daughter of the late Cofer Carter Crowe and the late Irene Lowery Crowe. She was formerly employed by Oxford Manufacturing and was a member of Love Springs Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sisters, Agnes Crowe Smalley and Evelyn Crowe, both of Gaffney; two nieces and three nephews.
Graveside services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Revs. Bruce Randolph and Billy Millwood. The family will receive friends from 2-2:45 p.m. at the mausoleum prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Mike Smalley, Bernard Smalley, Aaron Smalley, Dwayne Smith, Travis Smalley, Trey Smalley, Eric Smalley, David Smalley and Joshua Smith.
The family is at the home of her sister, Agnes Crowe Smalley, 248 Little Egypt Road.

Ken Kennedy

for 35 years
Keenan Leslie Kennedy, 76, of 155 Corona Drive, died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Ken was born in Gaff-ney on Sept. 22, 1928, to the late William F. Kennedy and Nora McCullough Kennedy. A lifelong resident of Gaffney, he worked at Winn-Dixie for 35 years, retiring as Market Manager. Not only was he a loving and giving father, he devoted the last 12 years of his life to the care and well-being of his wife, Rose. Ken and Rose would have been married 56 years on September 3. Ken served with the Marine Corps from 1946 to 1948 and was always proud to say he was a Marine.
Mr. Kennedy is survived by his wife, Rosanell Spencer Kennedy; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carole and Walt Baker of Gaffney and Kathie and Larry Finocchi of Charlotte; four sisters, Grace Cobb, Angie Sarratt and Inez Stroupe of Gaffney and Marie Taylor of Charlotte; and a brother, Thad Kennedy of Gaffney.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel with burial in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home.
The family has requested that contributions be made to West End Baptist Church, 400 Overbrook Drive, Gaffney, S.C. 29341.
Rebecca A. Coyle
Proprietor of Tax World
Rebecca Allen Coyle, 79, of 903 N. Granard St., died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late John Frank and Laura Annie Owensby Coyle. She was proprietor of Tax World and a former manager of Stellens Dress Shop and also Eleanor Dress Shop for several years. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a sister, Nettie Coyle Horn, of Gaffney and several nieces and nephews.
Miss Coyle was preceded in death by seven sisters and two brothers.
Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel, conducted by Dr. Clyde Thomas. The family will receive freinds at the funeral home one hour prior to the services.

Bobby G. Darwin

manager and farmer
Bobby Gene Darwin, 74, of 331 Darwin Road, died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at his home.
A native of Cherokee County, he was the husband of Betty Hamrick Darwin and son of the late B. and Nettie Marsh Darwin. He was a retired service station manager and farmer. He served in the Army in the Korean Conflict, was Post Commander of American Legion Post 109, a member of the Improved Order of Redmen, and a volunteer with the Corinth Fire Department. He was active with the Gaffney Police Auxiliary for 12 years as a captain and was a member of the Cherokee County Task Force for five years. He also served as captain with the Cherokee County Rescue Squad for a number of years. He was recognized in the book, “Personalities of the South,” in 1973.
Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Gaye D. and Larry D. Elliott of Gaffney; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Wayne Darwin and Hugh and Kim Darwin, all of Gaffney; five grandchildren, April Broome, Christopher Darwin, Peyton Darwin, Mara Elliott and Gabrielle Darwin; a great-grandchild, Dylan Hawkins; a brother, M.B. Darwin of Gaffney; and a sister, Mildred D. Sparks of Gaffney.
Memorial services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Tommy Wright and Jimmy Hamrick.
The family will receive friends at the home.

Linda Sue Pittman Ruppe, 55, of 1506 Buck Shoals Road, died Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at her residence.
A native of Dallas, Ga., she was the wife of Jimmy Norris Ruppe and daughter of Ola Pauline Anderson Pittman and the late Walter Jerome Pittman. She was a former employee of Nestlé Frozen Food Co. and was a member of Gaffney Freewill Baptist Church.
Also surviving are three daughters, Annette Crowder of Griffin, Ga., Michelle Johnson of Shelby and Angela Fowler of Chesnee; four sons, Wally Willard of Cowpens, Tommy Pitts of Spartanburg, Cecil Pitts of Gaffney and Daniel Anderson of San Francisco, Calif.; four sisters, Jolene Brownlowe,, Martha Engstrom, both of Swannie, Ga., Ann Pincus of Huntsville, Ga., and Shelia McCluny of Conyers, Ga; five brothers, Dewey Pittman of North Platte, Neb, Donald Pittman, Danny Pittman, Buddy Pittman, all of Griffin, Ga., and David Pittman of Zebulon, Ga.; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her father, Mrs. Ruppe was preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy Pittman and Jerome Pittman.
Services were held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Fred Quidley. Burial was in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Scott Sisk, Scott Gosnell, Jerry Lockhart, Jason Head, Ronnie Rogers, Kevin Hill and Jason Henderson.

Mary Wilson
Cherokee County native
SHELBY – Mary Thompson Wilson, 89, of 210 Lee St., died Tuesday, May 31, 2005, in Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.
A native of Cherokee County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Thad-deus Edward and Almeda Bettis Thompson. She graduated in 1933 from Blacksburg High School and had been a member of First Baptist Church in Shelby since her marriage to the late R.K. Wilson in 1937. She was a member of the Love Sunday School Class and the Mary C. Robertson Bible Study. She served as a Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack 101 at First Baptist, which was founded by her late husband.
She was an active and devoted member for many years of the American Red Cross and was awarded the Margaret Noell Award for Most Outstanding Female Volunteer in 1990. She had also been active in the American Legion Auxiliary, having served as president, as well as chairman of the Girls State Scholarship Committee, and enjoyed selling poppies to honor our military on Memorial Day.
Mrs. Wilson was a member of the Elks Auxiliary and served as secretary at the Senior Center. She enjoyed membership in the Cleveland Guards Chapter No. 443 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and was very active in researching family histories.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Pauline Byers, Marie Moss and Dorothy Richards; and four brothers, Bee Thompson, Fred Thompson, Clyde Thompson, and Zeb Thompson
Surviving are a daughter, Kay W. and her husband, Edward C. Kennedy, of Columbia, S.C.; two sons, Robert Knox Wilson Jr. and his wife, Beverly, of Shelby and Kenneth Edward Wilson and his wife, Aggie, of Spring Valley, Ill.; five grandchildren, Kelli Wilson and her husband, Brian Keller, of Cary, N,C.; Robert Knox “Tripp” Wilson III and Holli Wilson, both of Shelby, Kevin Wilson of Chicago, Ill., Jon Wilson of Normal, Ill., and Emma and Simon Wilson of Cary; as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.
The funeral will be today at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Tench officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from noon until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

GREER – Ernest Davis Sr., 61, of 102 Victor Court, Apt. 2, died Wed-nesday, June 1, 2005, at 7:05 p.m. in Allen Ben-nett Hospital, Greer.
Son of Mary Davis Miller of Greer and the late George Miller Sr., he was a native of Spartanburg Couny and a retired welder for Roebuck Roofing Co.
Surviving in addition to his mother are two daughters, Brenda Davis and Wanda Davis of Spartanburg; three sons, Ernest Davis Jr. of Fairmount, Nickey Davis of Estelle and Willie Davis of Spartanburg; two brothers, George Davis and Mack Davis of Greer; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Saturday at 7 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home in Gaffney. Graveside services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m.

Aaron Douglas Bolton, 27, of 342 Sierra St., died Thursday, June 2, 2005, at his home.
A native of Whitmire, he was the husband of Krystal Pitts Bolton and son of the late Gene Douglas Bolton and the late Jean Riggs Bolton. He was a former employee of Food Lion in Fort Mill.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Darren Eugene Bolton of Gaffney; a sister, Anna Lee McCellan of Waxsaw, S.C.; two stepchildren, Jacob Rising and Elaina Rising, both of Gaffney; and two aunts, Joann Bailey of the home and Louise Bolton of Charlotte.

BLACKSBURG – Joy Dianne Bolin, 50, of 338 Moss Crossing, died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at her home.
A native of Cherokee County, she was the wife of James Wesley Bolin and daughter of Clella Raines Bolin of Blacksburg and the late Junius Bolin. She was retired from Timken and was a faithful member of Love Valley Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, N.C.
Also surviving are two sons, Kevin Bolin and Bobby Bolin, both of Blacksburg; four sisters, Joan Lawson and Peggy Camp, both of Gaffney, Rachel Mae Wright of Shelby and Frances Black of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Ray Tommy Bolin of Rocky Mount, N.C., and Woody Bolin of Gaffney; and two grandchildren, Hunter Gage Bolin and Delaney Elizabeth Bolin.
Services will be held today at 4 p.m. at Love Valley Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Barry Philbeck, Ben Mayo and Mike Ramsey. Burial will be in Clingman Memorial Gardens, Blacksburg.

Beverly Brier Queripel, 66, of 229 College Drive, died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Doylestown, Pa., she was the widow of William Queripel and daughter of the late Daniel and Anne Overholtzer Brier. She was payroll benefit manager at South Carolina Steel and was a member of the South Carolina Garden Club, the Cherokee Historical and Preservation Society and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Surviving is a sister, Lona Brier, of the home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, June 6, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, conducted by the Rev. Louis P. Manuel, S.J. The family will receive friends after the Mass.
