Gaffney, SC — Phyllis Spargo Brown, formerly of 101 Sheraton Loop, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 22, 2025 at Spartanburg Medical Center.
Born in Gastonia, NC, she was the widow of the late Donald “Don” Hugh Brown to whom she was married for 50 years, and daughter of the late Lloyd Spargo and Mary Fraley Spargo. She was a graduate of Lowell High School and Mary Black School of Nursing, retired from the Cherokee County School District, and was an active member of Grassy Pond Baptist Church. Phyllis was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, a Chaps member, a member of the Sassies Prayer Group, and an avid bridge player. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, who called her “Grandma”.
She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Dr. Donald “Donny” Brown II (Beth) of Hickory, NC and Michael Edward Brown of Pensacola, FL; two daughters, Kelly Brown Hughes (Tim Scheibel) of Greenville and Stacy Brown Camp (Thomas) of Chesnee; a sister, Sue Chappel of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Dr. Dylan Brown (Gray), Avery Brown, Hogan Davidson (Aliyah), Rainey Davidson, Griffin Hughes, Anna Brown, Peyton Brown, Colton Brown, Stanley Yeargin (Sara), Dr. Emily Howard (Grandison), Luke Phillips (Hope) and Seth Phillips; great-grandchildren, Seth Jackson, Averie Yeargin and Olivia Yeargin; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Dick Spargo and three sisters, Delores Mancusi, Treva Edmondson and Doris “Mickey” Burgess.
The family will receive friends from 11:00AM until 12:00 PM on Friday, June 27, 2025 at Grassy Pond Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 12:00 PM at the Church with Reverend Dicky Spargo, Reverend Mark Gregory, Reverend Martin Hogg and Mrs. Stacy Camp officiating. Interment will be in the Grassy Pond Baptist Church Cemetery.
